"David Hall rocks y'all" every afternoon from 3-7pm, as he has on Lightning 100 since 1993. David came to Nashville in 1980 and had long runs on the air at WKDF from 1980-1988 and WGFX from 1988-1993 while they were rock stations, so no one has continuously rocked Music City as long. David also hosts the "Lightning 100 Unplugged" show on Sunday mornings from 9:30-11am. Then on Sunday nights he's the MC for Lightning 100's weekly live music series "Nashville Sunday Night" at 3rd and Lindsley 8-10pm.
Another attention-grabbing new song you’ve heard on Lightning 100 has a video that’s making as-yet-unknown-in-America artist named Gotye better known indeed. His name is pronounced Go-tee-yay. He’s Australian and has won several Grammy-equivalent awards there already. “Someone That I Used To Know” will be on his album Making Mirrors, getting released in the U.S. on January 31st.
Ingrid Michaelson has already recorded a cover version under the side-project name ARMY of 3. See what you think of her version.
You’ve heard the song on Lightning 100. This is the video that’s propelling this self-described “gangsta Nancy Sinatra” to stardom. 15 million views for “Video Games” on YouTube and more every day. Her album Born To Die will be released January 31st.
Like the “Love” album mash-ups gave a new listening experience to some Beatles songs, this Beatle fan’s awesome mash-up of the rare Beatles fan club Christmas messages from the 60′s gives a whole new listening experience to them. Wonder how long it took him to create this thing! What do you think?
Here’s Snow Patrol performing an acoustic version of their new song “Called Out In The Dark.” This is the kind of stuff you can hear every Sunday morning on Lightning 100 Unplugged, 9:30 to 11am.
Check out these two alternate versions of “Run Away,” the second song we’ve started playing from Sarah Jarosz’ new album Follow Me Down. The video version teams Sarah with Alison Krauss and Jerry Douglas for a live-in-the-studio performance in Scotland. We’ll be playing this version on Lightning 100 Unplugged on Sunday morning! The audio version is from Sarah’s Nashville Sunday Night show on June 5th. It’s how she kicked off her set on our broadcast that night.
Fast-rising Nashville duo Elenowen (Josh & Nicole Johnson), who made a national splash competing on NBC-TV’s “The Voice,” gave us a great, full-band performance when they headlined our Nashville Sunday Night broadcast 10-30-11. The set was full of new songs coming on their new album next spring. You can hear 3 highlights on the SoundCloud reel below. Elenowen’s full setlist was: Blood and Bones (audio), What We Hope, Honey Come Home (audio), Head To My Heart (audio), Ghost Of Beauty Divine, Save Me, Stars Go Blue, Hallelujah/Cripple Me, Storm, Where The Waters Meet. After our broadcast ended, the audience at 3rd and Lindsley was treated to these two more: I’m On Fire, Nashville.
