I’ll be working backstage again at Bonnaroo. It’s my 11th year in a row running the backstage interview studio. I’ve had some great memories over the years and met some amazing musicians. In 2004 we met Marc Broussard, 2005 Brett Dennen, was Brandi Carlile in 2005 as well? That’s kind of a problem. The years and sometimes the bands are hard to tell apart. If I don’t label photos, sometimes I forget which band it was. I may be a genius editing a pro tools session…but the ole memory…well not so much. Looking ahead at this year and my own private backstage bonnaroo is pretty exciting! First of all, it’s the first year that back at Lightning 100 I have an assistant, which means it’s the first year I’m not editing until midnight to get all my production done for the week. I’ve left a lot in the capable hands of Guy Fell, including my interview with John and Lilly Hiatt for this Sunday’s Father’s Day edition of Music Business Radio.
Since 2004 Lightning 100 has been setting up an interview and recording studio Backstage at Bonnaroo! We do it with a little help from our friends and today one of them, Lij Shaw, will be joining us live on Lightning 100. Lij owns a recording studio in East Nashville, The Toy Box Studio, and runs the backstage Hay Bale recording sessions. He sent us this list of his recordings this morning. Browse through them, then make a request for us to play during the noon hour on the Lightning 100 Facebook page. If we play your song, you could win tickets to Leftover Salmon at the Ryman Sept 15th. Featuring John Bell of WSP, Sam Bush, Jeff Coffin of DMB, Taj Mahal, Bill Payne of Little Feat, Todd Park Mohr of Big Head Todd, Randy Scruggs and many more!

Last week I had some great in studio guests for an even better cause. Nashville resident Trent Dabbs and Nashville cast member Sam Palladio, along with musician Colin Linden, came into the Lightning 100 studio. They chatted about writing together, ABC’s Nashville, and helped raise awareness for the victims of the Typhoon Haiyan. Haiyan was an exceptionally powerful tropical cyclone that devastated portions of Southeast Asia, particularly the Phillipines, in early November 2013. It is the deadliest Phillipine Typhoon on record, killing over 6,000 people in that country alone.
