Keegan DeWitt EP review by

Significant pieces to the forefront of the American music scene’ were being showcased here in Nashville on Wednesday night at the legendary Exit/In alongside the incredible Keegan Dewitt, Madi Diaz, and The Bridges to an impressive, yet intimate, crowd. Set afire by the buzz and energy surrounding the rising success set within the room.

With an overly impressive resume as an accomplished song writer, film score composer, inspiring play writer, actor, and DJ (Wild Cub)…Keegan Dewitt has silently moved his way to the front of the crowd while gaining the respect of his local and national counterparts. Not to mention his being quoted as Paste Magazines “Best of What is New” while also being a featured mention in acclaimed publications Filter Mag, LA Times, Pop Matters, My Old Kentucky Blog, and American Songwriters.

Hell, even the future ‘Rock and Roll Hall Of Famer’ Neil Diamond was quoted saying “This is the kind of cat I’d like to jam with, and afterward maybe share a banana split together. I don’t know. All I know is he’s got me feeling things I haven’t felt in years. Powerful, confusing things.” in regards to Keegan.

Bloody impressive.

If Wednesday night did anything, it most definitely set the record straight that Nashville is still holding onto an abundance of young musical talent on the rise.

From his current touring band of Issaca Byrd (The Bridges), Matt Shaw (Hymns), Jeremy Bullock (Pico vs. Island Trees), Dylon York (Band Marino) and to those fans that embraced the “ice apocalypse” of 2010…we commend you. You’ve chosen wisely.

With the release of the short EP Two Hearts /Reluctance on Theory 8 Records, we see an amazing combination of the feelings that spun through Keegan’s mind while on the road promoting his previous effort. Those thoughts of discovery while being misunderstood throughout the highs and lows of young companionship are comforted by the feeling that he finds in releazing that we are never alone in this emotional rollercoaster that we call life.

He draws you immediately into his album with the opening, upbeat, feel good rhythm of “Two Hearts” allowing us to catch a glimpse into the darker twist of lyrics associating one with the end of the honeymoon phase of a new relationship.

As the single turns, we are followed with the shimmering uncertainty of “Reluctance” – featuring vocals by Isaaca Byrd of The Bridges. One of the prettiest song he’s penned to date, proves that Keegan Dewitt has it all.
