In preparation for their show at The Basement East later this month, I’ve been spinning Pinegrove’s single “Darkness” on repeat.
After their sophomore release, Cardinal, it seemed the New Jersey outfit was destined to become indie royalty. But amid controversial accusations, Pingrove took a year-long hiatus before returning with their third studio album, Skylight.
Although written in 2017 before any controversy, the record seems to offer a sense of self reflection with emotionally-driven lyrics and softer sounds. It almost feels like the album is an apology, of sorts, to the band’s fans.
Listen to “Darkness” below and let us know what you think.
