Volunteer

Lightning 100 is a proud two-time recipient of the NAB Crystal Award, given to ten radio stations across the country, for our community service. Here at WRLT, service is not an afterthought, it’s baked into our identity.

Each year we allocate thousands of hours of airtime to nonprofits, and help promote dozens of charity events through on-air interviews, live liners, PSAs, auction item donations and more. But there’s no replacement for getting out in the community and serving. In 2018, we rallied our staff and listeners to volunteer for over 7,000 hours at projects around Nashville. This year, we’re excited to partner with Hands On Nashville to highlight many of our city’s most pressing volunteer needs. Check out our specially curated list of service opportunities below as well as the full HON calendar!

Hands On Nashville’s mission is to meet community needs through volunteerism. HON’s programs connect volunteers to opportunities supporting more than 200 nonprofits, schools, and other civic organizations; help these partners reimagine volunteer potential; and bring awareness to the challenges facing the people and places in our community. HON is also part of Nashville’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, and coordinates volunteer efforts for the city when disaster strikes.

Lighting 100 recently featured the voices of the 2021 Strobel Award recipients, who were honored for their commitment to community service in Middle Tennessee over the past year. To hear their stories and learn more about these everyday heroes, click here.
