Whether it was Michael Franti & Spearhead, The Delta Saints, and Luella & The Sun delivering fiery hot jams or the 88-degree and nearly 90% humidity heat there is no denying that Live on the Green last week was HOT. We hope you all stayed safe as well as hydrated and chose to cool down, refuel, and party on with a craft beer and a delicious treat from one of the many food trucks. Take this week to rest up and wipe the sweat from your brow because this Thursday Labor Day weekend starts early at Public Square Park we are at it again and this is going to be a week you do not want to miss. Pull out your dancing and get some light stretching in because people, believe me, feet will be movin’, hips will be shakin’, and Nashville will be rockin’.
As soon as he sits down you won’t be able to get off of your feet. Robert Randolph, pedal steel guitar extraordinaire, will be joined by The Family Band on Thursday- night and is sure to exceed your quota of incredible steel guitar, lively walking bass lines, and singing straight from the soul. Since 2001 Robert Randolph & The Family Band have been around the world and back performing with acts such as The North Mississippi Allstars, Dave Matthews, and Eric Clapton. The band’s latest studio album Lickety Split included guest appearances by Trombone Shorty, and Carlos Santana. Needless to say this band will not disappoint. Get “Amped Up” by taking a listen to “Born Again” it will be sure to get your “Hips Shaking.”
Lightning 100 had a great 2012….for in-studio performances! We made a list of our some of our favorite performances from the year, click here to see the full list.
Imagine Dragons – Radioactive We gave 20 lucky fans the chance to see a private performance with Imagine Dragons before their sold out show at Cannery Ballroom. One of our listeners included lead singer, Dan Reynolds, younger brother who won tickets during the lunch request hour. Watch Imagine Dragons performs “Radioactive” live at Lightning 100. Click here to see the band perform their big single “It’s Time” live in our studio.
Alabama Shakes – Hold On Band of Horses used to wear the crown for biggest crowd at Live On the Green until Alabama Shakes performed in 2012. Check out Alabama Shakes performance “Hold On” at Live On the Green. Filmed and edited by Make It Pop
Passion Pit – Take A Walk Passion Pit performs in front of a few fans in Griffin Technology’s Pre-Show Live event at Marathon Music Works. The band was running late, so we had to cut out the interview. Michael Angelakos, lead singer of Passion Pit was a little offended by this. Check out this live version of “Take A Walk”. We’ve also recorded “Constant Conversations” and “Sleepyheads” at the show.
The Lumineers – Classy Girl If you heard The Lumineers first on Lightning 100, you’ve got Wells Adams to thank for that. After a few weeks of playing “Ho Hey” during our music meetings, the song made it to the airwaves. Lightning 100 was one of the first stations in the country to play The Lumineers…..and now you hear them everywhere.
Walk The Moon – Anna Sun The young up-and-coming band Walk the Moon stopped by the studio without their face paint. Check out their performance “Anna Sun” live at Lightning 100. We’ve also got a recording of “Tightrope” on our HD On-demand Page. Read more

Phenomenal young Australian guitar virtuoso Joe Robinson has spent some quality time in Nashville collaborating with some of our elite writers. He’s been recording a new album which will be his first with vocals and features more electric guitar. Here’s a couple of highlights on this SoundCloud reel from Joe’s outstanding set on our Nashville Sunday Night broadcast 8-28-11. The two songs Joe chose to end his set with were “Barely Hangin’ On,” with vocals, and the instrumental “Daddy Longlicks.” If you’ve seen Joe, you know he can play fast and “shred,” but he can play very tastefully understated when he chooses. Did you catch the show? How would you rate Joe Robinson among the guitar greats?
Are you wondering how Smokin’ Joe Robinson got his nickname? Lightning 100’s camera crew could barely keep up with his fast licks from the Lightning 100 in-studio and Live On the Green performance. What do you think?
