Chinese New Year Celebration and trains. Best Week Ever.
Mamas, can we talk about this warm weather. Hallelujah! We took full advantage of it and went to go check out some news parks. Oh, and if you are looking for more things to do during the week – follow me on Instagram, @themusiccitymama

First, I know I was just telling you about Plaza Marachi last week, but I have to tell you about this event coming up on Saturday. I am soo excited! Chinese Arts Alliance has teamed up with Plaza Mariachi to present a Chinese New Year Celebration! This FREE event is Saturday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. and open to the public of all ages. There will be art/crafts for kids, a puppet show, martial arts, tons and tons of dancing and Chinese Food for purchase.  Learn more here.

Frankie Pierce Park: Lightning 100 is located in Marathon Village so I have been eying this new park in Capitol View since it opened a few months ago. I was so excited for a nice day to finally check it out. It’s really cute with a few areas to climb, slides build into the hills, a volleyball court (that wasn’t being used so we used it as a sandbox!) and an adjacent dog park – which mesmerized smith for about 10 minutes.

While you are here, check out Your Pie around the corner for lunch! You can even walk there from the park. They have really great chopped salads and kids can get a pizza, scoop of gelato and a drink for just $5.49!

Tennessee Central Railroad Museum: Smith is really into trains right now, like very into trains. So when I found out about this place we had to go. It’s very small, one-room of old artifacts and another room with a HUGE model train set up but it was the perfect little outing. PLUS! They have volunteers that took us outside and let Smith go inside one of the passenger trains.

The whole thing probably took us 30 minutes to do but it’s free and if you little human is into trains, this place is perfect. They also do ticketed excursions about twice a month. You can check it out here.

Cornerstone Church: Heads up, Cornerstone’s Playground is closed for two weeks. They are replacing the carpet and should be open again on 2/18. Man… that’s a long time without our favorite free indoor playground.
