Today’s DJ Pick of the Week goes to London-based band, Flyte for their song “Trying To Break Your Heart.” This is a track on the band’s most recent album This Is Really Going To Hurt. The album is the outcome of the breakdown of vocalist, Will Taylor’s eight-year relationship. All the songs explore ideas of bitterness, hurt, heartbreak, anger, and loss.
Alongside the album, Flyte also released a pen album book. Will Taylor explains “the book was our labor of love over lockdown. These are typewriter-written transcripts of phone conversations to our producer, chord charts, hand developed photographs, scans from early lyrics in old notebooks. It’s fair to say that as a band and as individuals, we tend to keep things fairly inconspicuous. Hopefully, this book will be an insight into our process that people haven’t seen before.”
Released on April 9th, This Is Really Going To Hurt, has impressed listeners all over the world. Flyte has an incredible ability to turn anger into beautiful folk songs. “Trying To Break Your Heart” is about warning someone to leave a toxic relationship. The song’s production is very raw and ragged which helps the harmonies and vocals remain centered and bright. Check it out below!
