Nashville singer-songwriter Kinn’s “Running Away to Get Closer” opens her latest album Anything, Love as an ethereal hit single. As Melissa’s DJ Pick of the Week, the single from Kinn sets the tone for the album as a new indie-alt favorite.
Kinn moved to Nashville from North Dakota to attend Belmont University, and of course, to be closer to the music scene. She knew from the start that she wanted to be a songwriter, and what better place to start. Surrounded by musicians, Nashville inspired Kinn to be the best that she could be. In an interview with Steaming Dept., Kinn explained how Nashville has inspired her music in more ways than one.
The talent here challenges me to write a better lyric, perform with more passion, and to keep releasing music no matter what. I wouldn’t be where I am without the people in Nashville who have guided me each step of the way as I pursue this.

Luckily for us, the inspiration of our city brought out the best in Kinn. “Running Away to Get Closer” is the first track on her debut album, and it showcases her talent perfectly. Just as Kinn said, listeners want something different and new, and that’s exactly what she gave us.
“Running Away to Get Closer” feels almost like a daydream. It’s easy listening with its flowy melodies and soft lyrics. Now, you don’t have to wait to hear the rest of Kinn’s talent. In October, she released Anything, Love. It’s an album full of favorites and showcases what can come out of Nashville.
