Today’s DJ Pick of the Week goes to Liz Phair for her latest release “Hey Lou”. This is the first song that she has put out in nearly two years. Luckily for her fans, “Hey Lou” is the one of first the singles off of Phair’s upcoming studio album Soberish. The highly anticipated album is suspected to be released sometime this year. The producer is one of her closest, long-time collaborators Brad Wood.
“Hey Lou” pays tribute to the notorious artists, Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson. The song makes references to Anderson’s song “O Superman” and Andy Warhol. The accompanying music video features these icons as puppets, living how Phair feels they may have interacted privately. While the song and video touches on character flaws, the puppets are also seen enjoying making music and walking on a beach together. Check out the video below!
In a recent press release about the single Phair stated: “Have you ever wondered what love looks like for your favorite celebrity couple behind closed doors? ‘Hey Lou’ imagines a day in the life of two music legends, whose union was an inspiration for rock bands and a source of curiosity for die hard romantics.”
“What’s inside that heavy head?
Are you on the junk again?
Your eyes look dead
But your mouth keeps moving on and on
We’re losing all of our friends
Pretty soon it’s gonna be just you and me across the table”
Lyrics from “Hey Lou” by Liz Phair
