Phangs, in collaboration with Matthew Thiessen from Relient K, brings back memories of a harsh breakup in his new single “A Hurt Like That.” This heartbreaker is not a wallow in your own misery, crying while eating ice cream ballad. It is an upbeat address to a lost love. Reminiscing on nostalgic moments, while confessing he hasn’t moved on, Phangs reminds us all of that one person we haven’t forgotten. Listen all weekend to hear “A Hurt Like That,” featured as our ONErpm Hitmaker!
Hailing from our own backyard, Nashvillian artist Phangs uses elements of 80’s and 90’s synth pop to create his music. Composed of galvanizing keyboard notes and passionate vocals, “A Hurt Like That” is a combination of Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love” and Phoenix’s “1901”. Phangs teamed up with Matthew Thiessen from Relient K on the track. Relient K is a Christian punk-pop group known for their hits “Be My Escape” and “Who I Am Hates Who I’ve Been.”
“Having Matt Thiessen on this song just made so much sense. Relient K has been a massive piece of my life since I was a kid. I truly started playing guitar because of them. So for Matt to hop on this song was a dream,” spoke Phangs.
“A Hurt Like That” is an ode to trying to move on from a person, even when their presence still lingers. Check out the audio video below and enjoy the silicon balloon text set against a soft rainbow sky.
