Although Alexander would eventually step forward and embrace this leap of faith approach, “Stay” bears witness to the nerve wracking feeling of standing atop the steep cliff of uncertainty. Alexander’s folksy guitar licks ground his grand vocal harmonies in the cool melancholy of indecision. A driving, mechanical beat pulls against the meandering flow of the lyrics as these two elements encapsulate the competing feelings that come with the loss of a home.
