This week our interns are taking you on a ride around Broadway with songs we think Nashville Party Buses should be playing.

Michael’s Pick – “The Piano Drop” by Tim Hecker

Every time I see a party bus drive by, this is the first song to enter my mind. And yet, I’ve never once heard this song played in a bus OR on Broadway. What gives? Clearly, more people just need to be made aware of the magnetic, danceable aura that Tim Hecker has cultivated throughout his career. The pulsing bass, the rippling static in the high end, the indescribable vocal performance. Everything about “The Piano Drop” screams instant dance hall classic, and yet so few people are aware of the incredible potential that this song holds.

Taking influence from his Montreal contemporaries such as Arcade Fire and Grimes, Hecker consistently experiments while remaining at the forefront of musical discussion. As a key innovator in electronic music, Hecker invented sounds on “The Piano Drop” that will continue appearing in dance clubs for decades to come. With just one listen at the link below, I promise that you will absolutely, unironically, and wholeheartedly agree with me that “The Piano Drop” by Tim Hecker is a future Broadway banger.

Mikayla’s Pick – “Funny Thing” by Thundercat

Nashville party buses are meant for letting loose and having a good time. Thundercat’s “Funny Thing” is in perfect alignment with those principles.
This song couldn’t have found its listeners at a better time. Just a few weeks into the 2020 pandemic lockdown, Thundercat delivered his fourth studio album, It Is What It Is. During this time, worry about the future state of the world weighed heavily on many of us. However, for me, whenever this song came on it was like all of those feelings disappeared for a minute. Thundercat has a playful, carefree personality, and he embodies those traits in his music. With skillfully funky bass lines and witty lyrics, the man can turn anyone’s frown upside down. Katie’s Pick – “Naked in Manhattan” by Chappell Roan

My pick for Nashville Party Bus week is “Naked in Manhattan” by Chappell Roan. Roan rose to fame in the summer of 2021 after her song “Pink Pony Club” blew up on Tik Tok. She is an LA-based sing-songwriter who makes electronic ballad pop.

“Naked in Manhattan” is the second song I heard of Roans. The song is a fun exploration of new love and makes you want to dance around. This song is a party jam that would KILL on a party bus night out. Whether for a bachelorette party or out with a group of friends, everyone can relate to this song. If not, it will at least make you want to bop your head.

One of my favorite things about Chappell Roan’s music is how she has moved into the electronic pop space with a bang. She has worked with producer Dan Nigro, who is best known for working with Olivia Rodrigo and Conan Gray. Nigro and Roan have worked together on many occasions since, and make a great team.
