“I Wish We Could Be Friends” is this week’s ONErpm Hitmaker Alert! Starting from humble beginnings, Krooked Kings emerged in 2019 when five college friends from the University of Utah began writing music and performing in backyards and basements. Their heartfelt indie rock gems soon gained traction, culminating in the signing with Los Angeles-based indie label Nobody Gets It Records in 2020. Their breakout single, “96 Subaru,” has since amassed over three million streams. In September 2021, Krooked Kings dropped their debut album, The Comedown, and embarked on two support tours with Goth Babe and Rare Americans, as well as three headline dates in Denver, Salt Lake City, and Los Angeles. Fans can look forward to new music from the band, as they are currently preparing to release their sophomore album with artist and producer Day Wave.
The second single from their much-awaited album, “I Wish We Could Be Friends,” a mellow indie rock anthem that expresses the desire for a friendly bond with a former romantic partner. The lyrics delve into the feelings of longing and inquisitiveness towards someone who was once an integral part of one’s life. Sonically, their signature surf rock elements shine through with driving drums, soft vocals, and dense guitar layers. A sound just in time for summer!
