This week’s ONErpm Hitmaker Alert is “West Coast” by Smallpools! This groovy track was released as a single in early February this year.
The band of LA-based indie rockers formed in 2013, consisting of Sean Scanlon (vocals), Mike Kamerman (guitar), and Beau Kuther (drums). After finding online success with their debut single, “Dreaming”, Smallpools found their career already launching quickly. The single had charted on Billboard, earned them a label deal, and made it onto the FIFA 14 soundtrack all within one year of its release. Fans could not get enough of them on tour, as they opened for artists like Walk The Moon and MisterWives. Following this massive success, the band had gone on to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and has since generated well over 150 million Spotify streams.
“West Coast” is a romantic, upbeat summer anthem about missing a loved one. Originally sung by Coconut Records, the band was inspired to release their take on the track based on the theme ‘Cameras and Coastlines’. The production on this interpretation is refreshing, featuring gritty basslines and distorted guitar, as well as Scanlon’s smooth vocals. If you’re looking for a fun tune to jam to this summer, you’ll love the carefree vibes of “West Coast”.
