Jay’s DJ Pick of the Week this week is “Twenty-Seven” by Bee Taylor!
Bee Taylor’s voice is like honey- rich, strong yet sweet and comforting at the same time. On stage, Taylor possesses no fear to move and let loose. She sings and dances with fluidity and ease as the music guides her. Taylor has been proclaimed “equal parts lioness and songbird”. She discovered her love for music by traveling around Texas with her mom playing shows wherever she could. From there, in music she has discovered her purpose and her voice. Both of which have since guided her in her career. Though difficult to achieve, Taylor managed to capture the ethereal energy of her live performances on her first studio album, Twenty Seven. The album debuted on November 15th, 2024.
The album consists of eleven “sexy and powerful songs”. Twenty Seven desires to tell the message of feminine expression. The album with each song told by a female narrator, portrays the full spectrum of women’s desires, joys, and sorrows. There’s a track for a good cry as well as a track for dancing around the living room. A track for background ambiance in a room full of friends and family and another to enjoy alone. Basically, it’s an album for all occasions. In the title song “Twenty-Seven”, Taylor sings about a muse, an image of beauty and desire, a “twenty-seven”. The song’s lyrics are mythological, “I hear they all die young / Exaggerated perception / Cause if it’s try it isn’t fun / A glorified legend”. Taylor’s vocal power elevates the song’s message of empowerment for listeners greatly.
