“oldnews” by Meg Elsier is Jayson’s DJ Pick of the Week
An up-and-coming face in the local scene, Meg Elsier’s wave of indie-acid-rock has taken the town by storm. Her 2023 breakout single, “ifshitfuq”, put her on the radar. Now, she has released her debut album, spittake. Produced by Nashville legend Ryan McFadden, the project is intimate and raw, exploring an array of complex emotions.
The sixith track, “oldnews’, discusses themes of bordom, stagnation, and the passing of time. Featuring heavy digital elements, grungy synths, and an ethereal vocal, the song is a whiplash of emotions. It starts and ends the same, with the irony of ‘old news’, that is constently being permated the public.
Her intrest in music started at a young age, but stage fright and fear of perseception kept her out of the lime-light. After finshing college years of pushing herself, she moved to Nashville to persue her dreams.
Infiltrating the live scene with electric sets, Elsier has already played at hotspots like Basement East and DRKMTTR. Her unique style and stage presence add another layer to her chaotic individuality. She will conitune the promotion for spittake with a North American tour. It will surely be an exciting ride as we continue to watch her pave her own path.
