“Two Balloons” by Sadler Vaden is Jayson’s DJ pick of the week!

Sadler Vaden is an artist, songwriter, and producer, best known for playing guitar in Jason Isbell and the 400 unit. Making time for his own music amidst his role in the 400 unit, Vaden has a noteworthy solo career. He released his fourth solo album Dad Rock just one month ago, just in time for Father’s Day.

Vaden’s signature nostalgic and powerful guitar sound shines on this record. On Instagram he described the project as a, “…journey of love and rock and roll”. The title and recordings of children giggling on the album hint that this is a celebration of being a father. Short and sweet with just 8 songs and a 34 minute run time, Dad Rock is full of gems.

“Two Balloons”, the last track on the album, is pure feel-good rock ‘n roll. Surely one reason this tune is so great is because one of Vaden’s favourite musicians helped him make it. Elliot Easton, of The Cars, makes a special appearance playing guitar on this song. Heartfelt, saccharine lyrics accompanied by mesmerizing guitar solos beautifully close out the record. Vaden manages to be authentic and sentimental while also giving us a catchy song to head bang to. This is the song that plays as the screen fades to black after a bittersweet ending to a coming of age flick. “Two Balloons” captures all the feels in its stunning rock vibe.

You can catch Sadler Vaden at the Blue Room on August 30th for the Dad Rock album release show.
