“Supersad” by Suki Waterhouse is Steph’s DJ Pick of the week!

English indie pop artist Suki Waterhouse debuts her lead single, “Supersad”, in anticipation of her sophomore album, Memoir of a Sparklemuffin.

The highly anticipated album comes out on Friday, September 13th. It features 18 tracks, including the hit singles “OMG” and “To Love”.

This catchy single is a reflection of the ebbs and flows of life. From spiraling and crying to accepting things that are out of our control, Waterhouse has been through it all. And she’s here to tell us in this poppy track that, “There’s no point in being supersad”. Waterhouse gives us a fun tune to dance to that also manages to be relatable and honest. “Supersad” is dynamic and captures how frustrating it is to get in your own way.

Waterhouse names Memoir of a Sparklemuffin after a colorful spider native to Eastern Australia. Recently she shared on TikTok, “…deeping the fact that I named my second album after an obscure Australian spider during a manic episode so now I have to just be confident and chill about it.” Her bold choice of title encapsulates the wild and vibrant energy that each track on the album embodies. With five other great singles already out from this album, it’s hard not to get caught up in Sparklemuffin’s web.

Waterhouse takes Memoirs of a Sparklemuffin on the road for her 25-city North America headlining tour. Catch The Sparklemuffin Tour at the Ryman on December 19th with support from Bully.

The “Supersad” official music video is the perfect accompaniment to this track. The vibrant and retro visuals bring Suki’s words to life. It shows Waterhouse rotting in bed and features a visit from her fairy godmother (played by herself). Check it out below!
