The songs that I’ve had on repeat recently have a lot of contrast. Songs, like “Dugout” and “Fake Plastic Trees” are ones that I have carried with me for quite some time. They are songs that are reliable, and I have found that I lean on them a lot. Each song is on here for a different reason, but the overarching theme is that each song brings me some sort of comfort. Whether it’s an upbeat track or one with moody, melancholic themes, each song on this list provides some form of ease at the end of the day.
Jack:
- Ask Questions – Loving
- 27 – Glitter Party
- The Animals – Helena Deland
- Post Hang – New Translations
- Inside Out – Beach Fossils
- Mild Confusion – Tamaryn
- Flower Bell – GOON
- Bent (Roi’s Song) – DIIV
- Sweet as a Rose – JW Francis
- Without A Leg To Stand On – Andrew Bird, Madison Cunningham
I find my recent listening habits to be consistently lo-fi. The melancholic psych-folk band Loving takes number 1 for me, fitting perfectly with the dark and rainy days of February. This contrasts with “27” by Glitter Party, an upbeat bedroom pop jam that matches the randomly sunny, 75 degree Nashville days scattered through the winter. Overall, my songs that have been “on repeat” seem to be folky, atmospheric, or bedroom-y.
Juliette:
- “Goodnight and Go” by Imogen Heap
- “Pictures of You” by The Cure
- “Rip Torn” by MJ Lenderman
- “She Belongs to Me” by Bob Dylan
- “Fire” by Anna St. Louis
- “Mr. Sightseer” by Blondie
- “Deep Blue Day” by Brian Eno
- “T&A”by Blondshell
- “One of These Days” by Bedouine
- “Butterfly Net” by Caroline Polacheck
My On Repeat playlist is always an eclectic mix. It’s normally a mashup of what is going on in my life that week. A combination of people I have seen live recently, music from movies I have watched, my current hyper-fixation songs, and new finds. My mashup does not necessarily have a set vibe or genre, but all the songs are fun in their own way. Each track leaves me wanting to listen again and again!
Kate:
- “I’m So Serious” by Daryl Johns
- “Aphasia” by Pinegrove
- “Teardrop” by Massive Attack, Elizabeth Fraser
- “This Must Be the Place” by Talking Heads
- “Sundowner” by Fontaines D.C.
- “One Of Your Girls” by Troye Sivan
- “Supersonic” by Oasis
- “No Surprises” by Radiohead
- “Metamorfosis” by Mon Laferte
- “The Distance” by CAKE
My “On Repeat” playlist reflects a variety in the types of music I have been listening to lately. The majority of the tracks are more upbeat and danceable. In my free time I have been taking dance lessons and I think my growing appreciation for expression through movement is shown in the more joyful songs on this list! However, there are some slower songs that are more lyric driven, something I find myself more drawn towards after a long day where I need to decompress at the end of the night while sipping on a cup of tea.
