The Fort Worth native Leon Bridges is a musician known for his soul-inspired R&B sound. Outside of music, Bridges is dedicated to aiding his local community. In 2020, Bridges founded THE BIG GOOD with football coach Gary Patterson to help meet the needs of North Texas communities by giving over three million dollars to its community partners.
“Laredo” is a single off of Bridges’ 2024 album titled Leon. The track transports listeners to a memory that they can vividly picture. Lyrics like “I knew a girl with a diamond crown / Grew up in a border town / Took me to an empty dive / Such a pretty silhouette / Show me how to two-step” take listeners to the hot Texas night when Bridges falls in love at first sight.
In addition to the lyrics, the musicality of the song helps listeners to feel witness to the situation unfolding. The lyrics “Play me something downtempo / Low-key and rocksteady” are reflected in the music of the track itself. The instrumentation reflects the feeling of everything slowing down while Bridges is seeing this woman dance in a dive bar. Listeners can feel like they are in Laredo with Bridges by experiencing the rhythm and dancing along to the track!
