Dan’s DJ Pick of the Week is “Arizona” by Palmyra!
Palmyra is a Virginia based, folk trio that is made up of Manoa Bell, Teddy Chipouras, and Sasha Landon. The band takes direct inspiration from their southern roots while combining it with soul and experimental rock. The group’s instrumental talent is evident with their mastery of upright bass, mandolin, and banjo showcased throughout their discography. Their lyrics discuss personal experiences of dealing with identity, mental illness, gender dysphoria, and the struggles of being a touring band. The trio’s first full length album Restless is set to release in early spring and features their most recent single “Arizona”!
“Arizona” is a country soul influenced song that gives listeners a glimpse into upcoming summer days. The track was inspired and written about a trip the band took to the deserts of Arizona in 2020. The feeling of escaping to a far away place that is free from distraction and never wanting to leave is perfectly captured through the song’s laid back melody and emotion-filled lyrics. The song reminds listeners of what is lost due to not living in the moment and valuing where you are presently. The music video features the band joyfully preforming in a tent together surrounded by nature.
