Lightning 100 is excited to announce Trauna as our Frothy Monkey Local Artist of the Week with their song “Runner”!

This Nashville-based duo is composed of Connor Robertson and Liz Freel. They were formed in a basement in Grand Rapids, Michigan during a period that allowed Robertson to refine his production skills while also bringing Freel’s lyrical and melodic ideas to fruition. Together, they found a sound that is as cinematic as it is introspective. “Runner” stands out in their growing discography. It follows their previous releases “Stonehenge” and “Channel Surfer,” offering a more minimal and emotionally direct side of the band. According to the duo, it is all about turning your focus inward—prioritizing self-care over worrying about how others need to change. That theme of introspection pulses through the track’s stripped-back yet emotionally charged arrangement.

The band themselves describe the track as feeling both “so punk” and “dreamy/lovely”, a fitting contradiction that captures the song’s essence. “Runner” leans into that duality with confidence and simplicity. Driven by gritty guitar tones and dynamic, hard-hitting drums, the track builds a pulse that is both urgent and hypnotic. Freel’s vocals ride the rhythm with raw emotion and soft resolve.

Whether you are out on a night drive or chasing down a fleeting thought, “Runner” makes a worthy companion. It is a testament to Trauna’s ability to make music that feels both vast and personal. It is also perfect for summer spins or moments when you need to tune back into yourself.
