Lightning 100 is excited to announce massie99 and their song “heaven” as our Local Artist of the Week!
Punk trio massie99 has quickly gained popularity since their debut in 2023. The group consists of three powerhouse performers: Grace, Grayson, and Dani. The group is known for switching instruments on stage, performing cheer stunts mid-set, and using props on stage! massie99 makes high energy bubble-punk songs that could double as cheerleader chants. The group has heavy Riot Grrrl and twee-pop influences that is heard in their fuzzy guitars and satisfying harmonies. The band’s beautiful three-part harmonies are one of the most stand-out aspects of their music. While the group evokes a cheerleader vibe, their music can’t be underestimated as simple chants. They play with tempo, harmony and storytelling that makes for an exciting listening experience!
The band’s newest release, “heaven,” came out last weekend! This playful song details the excitement and heavenly feelings of having a crush. The track speeds up and down, keeping you on your feet, just like a new crush! The girls sing, “Alone with you feels like heaven,” throughout the choruses, jumping between harmony and unison. Like all massie99 songs, this track is super playful. They are able to make the anxiety of having a crush feel fun and silly; something to laugh about instead of cry over! The band produced the track themselves! The guitars are bright and twinkly which stand out beautifully against the thick, punchy drums. “heaven” closes out with a super dramatic tempo change which encapsulates the chaos of the track.
