My Morning Jacket will release their seventh studio album, “The Waterfall,” on May 4th. It will be their first release since “Circuital” in 2011. The band started recording “The Waterfall” in 2013 while at the Panoramic House Studio in Stinson Beach, California. In an interview, they stated that they often use their location for inspiration when recording new music. Frontman Jim James stated that, “For me, every record has the spirit of where we made it. Stinson Beach was so psychedelic and focused. It was almost like we lived on our own little moon out there. It feels like you’re up in the sky.”
“The Waterfall” was recorded with producer-engineer Tucker Martine, who previously worked with the band on their sixth album “Circuital” in 2011. With this particular album, they decided to take a more spontaneous approach to the recording process and skip the rehearsal period altogether. The result was 24 tracks that were split into two different albums, with the second being released in 2016. Their lead single, “Big Decisions,” is currently available for purchase on iTunes and their summer tour kicks off on May 15th in Athens, Georgia.
