In Japanese culture there is a type of nostalgia known as mono no aware, or a wistful appreciation for the impermanence of life and the passing of things. This feeling is channeled by the folk-electronica group from Brooklyn known as Howard on their new song entitled, “Money Can’t Buy,” the second single from their debut album “Religion,” out now on Falling People Records.
“Money Can’t Buy” is a meditation on the angst inflicted by a departed lover, composed of impressionistic snapshots of unfulfilled longing, backed by the uncertain skitter of drums and a looping finger-picked pattern on acoustic guitar, pushing the dream towards it’s all too certain conclusion, “We’re all gonna die.”
