It’s a predicament thousands of artists are finding themselves in: what do you do with the music you just recorded when you can’t play shows to support the record? In the case of Nashville surf-rockers (cosmic blues according to the band) The Bumbs, you press forward. And thank goodness for us.
First came “Cuz I’m A Zombie,” the lead single of their forthcoming debut full-length Feed The Bumbs. Now The Bumbs are back with their sophomore effort, “Like Like Like” and it feels like the perfect transition into another hot Tennessee summer. While the band lists a variety of influences the ones that jump out the most on this track are Foxygen and Santana – a pairing that I’m not so sure have ever been mentioned in the same sentence. The satisfying reverb washed palette deserves a cold beer by the pool at the Dive Motel.
It’s no wonder that the song has such a strong hook. The band has been workshopping this one for at least three years. Just check out the acoustic performance of “Like Like Like” here:
