Casey’s DJ Pick of the Week

Winterpills has been pretty consistent in releasing new music since their official formation as a quintet in 2004. Even during these trying times, the indie rock band does not disappoint. It has been a minute (more like three years) since we’ve heard from Winterpills, but don’t worry, their newest single still encompasses the dark, pop melodies we all know and love. Except this time “Golden Waves” is about joy.

“It’s a kind of upbeat number, and we have mixed feelings about releasing an energetic, summery song during these days of such strife, pain and uncertainty,” wrote vocalist Philip Price. Winterpills’ two vocalists, Philip Price and Flora Reed, wrote “Golden Waves” before the unpredictability of 2020 sunk in. They struggled with the idea of releasing their new track, because it is about this unique joy of disappearing. However, with the current state of the world, Price realized that the idea of dissolving can have two very different effects. “This painful paradox is baked into the song.”
