On March 18thsinger/songwriter Amy Helm released the first single off her upcoming album, What the Flood Leaves Behind. This will be her third solo album, set to release on June 18th. We are spotlighting said single, “Breathing”, as Rev’s DJ Pick of the Week!
Unlike her previous album that was recorded in Los Angeles, Helm decided to return to her home in Woodstock, New York to record her new album. In a recent statement she explained, “Going back to the place where I learned so much about how to express music, how to hold myself in music, how to listen to music. It was humbling in a funny way. I could see clearly where I came from and where I am now in my life. I was singing from a different place now and for a different reason.”
What the Flood Leaves Behind was produced by Josh Kaufman, who also produced Taylor Swift’s folklore. Kaufman contributes piano, mandolin, and guitar throughout the album. He made sure to give Helm the freedom to be herself during the recording process which ultimately helped them create beautiful music.
“Breathing” is an americana song that features incredible harmonies and light and airy themes. The song is full of bright pianos and horns that surround Helm’s beautiful vocals as she sings “trust your breathing…”. Check it out below!
