Seven years since their debut album Psychic, DARKSIDE returns. The duo of guitarist Dave Harrington and producer Nicolas Jaar are gearing up to release their sophomore record Spiral July 23rd via Matador. After parting ways indefinitely in 2014, the announcement of new music comes with considerable buzz. “The Limit” is the latest single off of the LP, and it’s Stephanie’s DJ Pick of the Week!

In the time since Psychic, both members of DARKSIDE have kept busy. Jaar has released five albums under his own name since then, in addition to two collections of club music released under the name Against All Logic. Meanwhile, Harrington has been producing and composing, and has put out two records with his Dave Harrington Group. On the subject of their reunion, Harrington says “It felt like it was time again. We do things in this band that we would never do on our own. Darkside is the third being in the room that just kind of occurs when we make music together,” according to Pitchfork.

I’m turning around

No, I can’t see the ground

Don’t sow what you reap

Don’t feel what you see

Of the nine songs on Spiral, six of them were recorded over a one week session back in 2018. The band created one song per day while living in a house together in New Jersey, and the rest of the album was finished during the following eighteen months. So far, two of these tracks are out. “The Limit” follows December’s “Liberty Bell.”
