Two years after the release of their debut album, British duo Ida Mae released their second album Click Click Domino. Featured on this album is DJ Jayson‘s pick “Learn To Love You Better“. With soulful harmonies, this rejuvenating love song is everything we were looking for in their new album. Through experimentation, this blues rock duo mastered a sound that is uniquely and beautifully their own. Turpin introduced the track:

“‘Learn To Love You Better’ was written for a friend of ours who was wildly and selflessly in love with a partner struggling with mental health issues and wanting to do everything right. It was written on a late 1800s Mandolinetto which we later combined with 70s analogue drum machines- inspired by JJ Cale and John Martyn.”

Chris Turpin and Stephanie Jean met while at the University of Bath. Their shared appreciation for music and timeless classics brought them together. The alt-rock band Kill It Kid was the first musical act to showcase their talent. Their success as a band set them up for their future journey as a duo. After departing from the band, Turpin and Jean created Ida Mae, which was a nod to the blues song of the same name by Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee.

Since their debut, they’ve performed alongside Lightning 100 favorites like Willie Nelson, Alison Krauss, Greta Van Fleet, and Marcus King. During the COVID-19 lockdown, Ida Mae produced Click Click Domino right here in Nashville, TN. Tune in to Lightning 100 to hear their latest music or check it out below:
