Alex Clare is back and better than ever with his single, “Why Don’t Ya”. It’s been five years since Clare has released a full album, and nine since he had a Global hit with “Too Close”. “Why Don’t Ya” is featured as this week’s ONErpm Hitmaker Alert, breaking Clare’s hiatus from fresh tunes.
When you hear the name Alex Clare, you remember the energy and excitement behind “Too Close”. As a nostalgic feeling comes rushing back to you, you wonder “Why did he ever go away?” Clare took a hiatus from music due to his rocky relationship with the music industry and his strong relationship with his faith. Clare did not share the same vision for his music as his previous label did. This resulted in production decisions being made that Clare wasn’t happy with. Clare noted, “it was more of a move on the label’s part to make some hits”.
In addition to creative differences with his label, Clare moved to Israel to go to Yeshiva. Yeshiva is a religious college at which Clare was able to learn more about the Talmud and Torah within the framework of orthodox Judaism. Clare studied and spent time with his family there for three and a half years. Then the studying eased off, and the music began creeping back into his life. Clare began writing again, mostly about love. He noted, “My relationship with my wife has always been my biggest muse. We’ve both had our struggles and things that we’ve had to deal with, individually and together, and that’s been a big source of creativity. When you’re dealing with your emotions and your feelings, it can lead to a really good creative process. It’s a way of getting it out.”
