This week’s ONErpm Hitmaker Alert is “BUMMER” by Minneapolis native Barely Trev. The track – which was released on May 27 – shares a sentiment we’re all too familiar with: this year has been a bummer. But despite the bad, there’s still cause for joy, and it’s what inspired the song.
“It’s pretty fitting cus it’s about being happy despite things going wrong sometimes,” he shared on Instagram. In another post he said that, lyrically, it’s one of his favorite songs he’s ever written.
The track fits perfectly on your ever-growing list of favorite summer songs. “BUMMER” is carefree, and hopeful. It’s a song that pairs well with a solo drive or a night out.
“BUMMER” is the third single Barely Trev has released in 2022, with “yours” and “Valentine” dropping earlier this year. He’s been releasing music since 2018, debuting with his single “Meet Me in Paris.” His first two albums – Closed for Winter and RUMTLOVE – came out in 2018 and 2020 respectively.
