Rev’s DJ Pick this week is “No California” by Ilsey!
Ilsey is destined to be the newest big name in folk-americana. She’s had previous collaborations with artists such as Robin Schulz, Mark Ronson, and Big Red Machine. She’s also written tons of hits, including songs for Panic! At The Disco, Shawn Mendes, Miley Cyrus, and more. If you’ve ever listened to the radio, you’ve definitely heard one of her songs. While Ilsey’s songwriting career has been active for years now, she kickstarted her first solo project back in June of this year. “No California” is the second single off of her debut album, From The Valley, released today!
“No California” is a 70’s-reminiscent folk-pop track that transports us to the valley. Its acoustic guitars and bright-tone drums make it feel like a happy, summery song. Meanwhile, the chorus repeats lyrics such as, “Everything about this place just brings me down, ‘cause there ain’t no California without you.” This song is about yearning, heartbreak, and looking for new adventures. If this sounds like your vibe, be sure to check out the rest of From The Valley!
