Rev’s DJ pick of the week is “Don’t Go, Don’t Stay” by Silverlites

You might have heard whisperings of one of music’s newest super-groups, but “Don’t Go, Don’t Stay” marks Silverlites’ official debut. The project is made up of Peter Buck from R.E.M., Barrett Martin from Screaming Trees and Mad Season, Rich Robinson of the Black Crows, and singer-songwriter Joseph Arthur. Silverlites began about 5 years ago, back in 2019, through the infancy of acoustic guitar-based demos. This is yet another product of the pandemic’s creative explosion.

It’s no secret that this new track is an homage to everything “old school”. It’s reminiscent of easy 70’s classic rock both in arrangement and production. Acoustic guitar shimmers atop punchy high-end-heavy drums, while Joesph Arthur’s vocals soar with a tasteful strain upon hitting the song’s highest notes. Martin even said it himself with a post on Facebook saying, “It’s old school songwriting, just like us.” Sometimes that’s what we need, a nostalgic take on the past and a reminder of the sound that laid the foundation for modern rock.

The full album is expected to hit all music services on November 15th of this year, so stay tuned in the coming month! Check out the official audio for “Don’t Go, Don’t Stay” below!
