Our Frothy Monkey local artist of the week is Mall Gag with their recent song “Angles in the Oil”!
Mall Gag’s single, “Angles in the Oil” is an alternative rock anthem. Drawing on their avant-garde influences, Mall Gag crafted a tune that features raw, distorted guitars and dynamic shifts. This blend of alternative-rock and punk creates an edgy yet introspective atmosphere. Written in an Elton John fashion, one member of Mall Gag contributed the lyrics while the other focused on instrumentation. “Angles in the Oil” is upbeat and reflective while simultaneously being a catchy punk-rock rally cry.
Mall Gag was conceptualized when lead guitarist, Dylan Rowe, was craving a creative outlet towards the end of COVID-19. Like most great local bands in the Nashville area, Mall Gag came together through longtime friends and connections. In a more peculiar fashion, lead singer Matt TV and Dylan Rowe met while exchanging goods through Facebook Marketplace. It was instant camaraderie among future bandmates. After chatting and trading demos with one another, both Dylan Rowe and Matt TV became aware of their potential. Shortly after, Dylan Rowe reached out to friends, including drummer Weston Sparks and vocalist Dylan Jones, who took interest in pursuing this new musical endeavor. Thus, Mall Gag was born.
