Dan’s DJ pick of the week this week is “Voided Velvet” by New Translations featuring Michigander!
Nashville locals New Translations beautifully combine retro inspired synth rock and modern alternative sound. Michigander brings their signature indie rock sound to the new single. Additionally, Michigander is putting out a debut album this February.
Throughout their discography, New Translations skillfully uses their lyrics to celebrate the mess that is the human experience in a refreshing and bold way. The use of heavy synth and retro beats create a sense of nostalgia and tenderness. The new single “Voided Velvet” combines Michigander’s indie sound with New Translations retro anthem harmonies. The lyrics describe a light-hearted yet withstanding relationship between two people “My voided velvet / Oh I’ll stay sometimes / And every time / It’s a lovely time”. The songs simple yet playful lyrics and indie rock melody spotlight the shared talents of New Translations and Michigander. Listen to both bands debut albums this February!
