“Little Bit” by Larkin Poe is Rev’s DJ pick of the week!
Larkin Poe is a gritty blues-rock duo consisting of sisters Rebecca & Megan Lovell. Originally from north Georgia, the band now lives in Nashville, bringing with them their unique brand of southern-inspired tunes. Starting their musical journey in 2005 as an acoustic trio with the addition of their older sister, the sisters graced the stages at the Grand Ole Opry & Bonnaroo before disbanding in December of 2009. Not wasting much time, Rebecca & Megan reformed as Larkin Poe in January of 2010, taking their name from their great-great-great-great-grandfather. Since reforming as Larkin Poe, the sisters have performed at Glastonbury, the Tom Petty Tribute show as part of the backing band, and have won multiple Grammys for their work. “Little Bit” comes as part of Larkin Poe’s newest album, Bloom, which was released in January of this year.
With an opening riff that calls back to the sounds of The Allman Brothers, Rebecca’s vocal soars over the bed of classic southern rock instrumentation baked into the track. Lyrically, the song compels its listeners to be content with what they have. Lines like, “Why would I want to change my life / Why is it new is always better” & “What do you keep looking for / More ain’t always more” remind the audience that always chasing a new peak isn’t always the answer. Simply put, “Little Bit” is a well-done modern take on the classic southern rock sound so many of us love.
