Lightning 100 is excited to announce Ketch Secor as our Frothy Monkey Local Artist of the Week with his song “Catch Me If You Can”!

Frontman of Old Crow Medicine Show, Ketch Secor released his first solo album just this past July titled “Story The Crow Told Me”. Secor has been a Nashvillian for over two decades, and since his move, has gained all the accolades a Nashville musician could dream of during his career. He is an inductee at the Grand Ole Opry, wrote the classic “Wagon Wheel”, and even opened a school in East Nashville, Episcopal School of Nashville. This new record is a reflection of his dedication to this city, holding onto a subgenre of country seemingly lost in the recent boom of pop-country. Some titles on the album including “Dickerson Road” and “What Nashville Was”, are honest, rich meditations on his growth alongside the city’s. The record is full of local references, crisp country and bluegrass, making a cohesive project that is reflective of Secor’s immense talents as a songwriter and musician.

Our highlighted song from Secor, “Catch Me If You Can”, was written after years of pun-making with his unique name, Ketch. It’s an honest look at the somber reality of a musician’s sacrifices to pursue a touring career. His imagery is consistently poignant, particularly in the line, “Coming round the bend / Up from the holler / Gonna catch a silver dollar with a song.” The track is packed with every element of a great country-folk song, from soft piano pads to organs, massive electric guitars, and tambourine. Yet most notably, he includes harmonica solos throughout the track that solidify his nomadic identity, painting a portrait of a traveler far from his roots. Ketch Secor will return to the Opry August 12th with a brand new set of tunes from “Story The Crow Told Me”.
