On this week’s community corner, Eva Montelongo- development and communications manager- and CEO Staci Davis from Waves are in to discuss their organization!

Over 50 years ago, Waves was created by citizens in Fairview, Tennessee and has continued to serve Williamson county since. Waves provides programming and support for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to help them live independent and fulfilling lives.

Early childhood programming has also been added to the organization’s reach to assist parents of disabled children.  Waves provides assessments free of charge through Tennessee Early Intervention, and assists children going through school to ensure they get the help they need. They also operate play-based learning and treatment protocols after the initial assessment.

The adult based programming operates a Day Program Center in both Fairview and Franklin along with a Community Transitions Program in Franklin. The residential program assists adults with IDD (intellectual and developmental disabilities) in living on their own. Waves also has four apartments and eight homes that house 27 individuals! Additionally, the employment program allows these adults to train and work for jobs within areas of their interest. Find out more about the programs on the Waves Website.

Waves has been “making waves” for over 50 years in Middle Tennessee and is only doing more to grow their program with each year! Brews and Grooves is Waves’ annual fundraiser in Franklin. This year on September 18th in Highwoods Park Place, Poor Lisa- a local band- will be performing from 6-8pm at the family friendly event full of local vendors, food, and drinks. In addition to Waves, Brews and Grooves will support many other nonprofits and small businesses.

“People leave learning so much more about the people we support. They leave wanting more engagement with Waves. We want them to understand that our adults and kids are as amazing and wonderful as any other person, and to crave that further engagement with our organization.”

Be sure to listen to the full episode below and visit Brews and Grooves on September 18th to donate to Waves!
