On this week’s episode of Community Corner, Brother Love sits down with Abby Smyers of Wags and Walks. This organization is new to Nashville, and has been saving stray dogs from pounds and euthanasia for six years. Wags and Walks began in Los Angeles California, but moved to Nashville as the need for a safe haven for dogs is in high demand in our community.
Unbeknownst to many people living in Nashville, there is a crisis of stray dogs in our city. Unfortunately, dogs are not self sufficient, as opposed to other animals like cats. This issue is exacerbated by overcrowding and disease. Wags and Walks has made it their mission to save these dogs in crisis. Since opening their doors six years ago, this wonderful organization has saved six-thousand dogs through their facility, foster homes, and medical clinic.
Wags and Walks’ mission is to find forever homes for the dogs they rescue. In order to do so, this organization sets the owner and dog up for success prior to adoption. They offer affordable vaccinations and neutering. Additionally, they offer community events, such as training courses, to ensure a smooth transition for both parties. Further, they are aiming to build a grant program in the coming years in order to help out families pay for astronomical vet bills in case of emergency.
