On this week’s episode of Community Corner, host Brother Love sits down with Kristen Bear and Andi Marie Tillman to discuss sobriety, booze culture, sober women, and why sobriety is cool. After becoming sober in February 2020 Kristen Bear founded Creative Sobriety. Creative Sobriety is a community centered platform and social media presence focused on promoting a modern alcohol free lifestyle. Andi Marie Tillman, a social media creator who self describes as “The Appalachian lady that does characters” connected with founder Kristen Bear through Creative Sobriety. They bonded over their sobriety as well as their shared backgrounds, both hailing from East Tennessee.

Creative Sobriety’s mission is to glamorize the sober lifestyle the same way booze culture has been glamorized. From Bear’s perspective, alcohol is sold to people as a kind of accessory to help them glide through life. But, she asserts that sobriety is “the ultimate freedom.” During this conversation Bear, Tillman, and Brother Love each share what sobriety has brought to their life. They dive into the beauty of being present, feeling things fully, and the satisfaction of rebelling against the status quo. Additionally, Tillman discusses the joy she feels at being a safe space for sober and sober curious people. She considers it a privilege to be that for her younger nieces who are just not very interested in alcohol. She loves that when they’re around her they don’t feel pressure to have a drink. Further, they discuss the younger generation’s rejection of the alcohol centered lifestyle.
