On this episode of Community Corner, Brother Love talks with Veronica Foster and Eric Hoke from Civic Design Center.
Since 1995, the Civic Design Center has been advocating for communities in Nashville to improve the quality of life for all. Originally focused on street design, this urban planning and designing non-profit has expanded to focus on bus services, sidewalks, signals, service, safety, and more.
In this interview, Veronica Foster (Communications and Advocacy Manager) and Eric Hoke (Design Director) spoke all about their mission. They express the importance of making sure everyone in a community is heard and that all communities are safe and comfortable. Overall, they say it’s a growth plan for the city.
What does this look like today? They host events each month, including their “Transit-Oriented Placemaking” event this August 8th (tickets here), and have plenty of opportunities for the community of Nashville to get involved. Whether it’s these panels, design meetings, or community-building events, Civic Design Center has improved the quality of life for millions through many projects. They also host the “Youth Voice Exhibition” which is a group of high schoolers who meet and work on projects to make improvements to campuses and neighborhoods.
