On this week’s episode of Community Center, Brother Love sits down with Jessica Moore, Mary Elizabeth Jackson, and Amy Correia of Autism Tennessee.
Started in 1996, Autism Tennessee is an organization that creates a reliable, inclusive community for those on the autism spectrum. The organization started as parents struggling to find doctors, dentists, and hair-stylists who had the specialized communication skills and sensory awareness for autistic children. However, it developed into a wide network that spreads across Middle Tennessee.
Autism Tennessee offers a variety of resources to those in need. The organization has created a web of professionals who are sensitive to those with neurodivergence. Further they organize social gatherings to celebrate differences, and events like the 6th annual Autism Walk taking place on September 20th at 8 a.m.
Overall, Autism Tennessee’s mission is to create a strong community that proves to people that are on the spectrum that they are not alone. In fact, their differences are a strength, and they are empowered to celebrate their uniqueness and form community bonds. Autism Tennessee has created a network that truly gets autism. Further, they maximize independence for those on the spectrum.
