This week’s Community Corner spotlight shines on Open Table Nashville!
Brother Love sat down with Allie Wallace, Executive Director of Open Table Nashville, to explore her and Open Table Nashville’s impactful work.
Open Table Nashville is a non-profit organization with the goal of ending homelessness and making Nashville a city in which everyone can live. The organization focuses on street outreach, housing navigation, education, and advocacy for those experiencing homelessness. Wallace said her desire to help make Nashville a more equitable and accessible city drew her to this work. Currently, Nashville does not have enough shelter beds or housing units to meet the growing need. Many people, especially those with limited income, are priced out of their homes due to unaffordable rent and stagnant wages. The organization works daily to meet immediate needs through food and supply distribution and housing navigation, while also walking people through the long process of securing permanent housing.
They center their work on the belief that housing is a human right and that no one should have to live outside in one of the wealthiest cities in the country. In addition to on-the-ground outreach, the organization places strong emphasis on shifting perspectives and policies. Wallace noted the damaging stereotypes often faced by those experiencing homelessness. No one chooses to live on the street, but it is often the result of systemic policy failures. She urges the community to show compassion and take action locally. Get involved by learning who your city council member is, supporting housing initiatives, volunteering, and donating. Open Table Nashville also highlights that permanent housing is not only more humane than criminalization—it’s more cost-effective. Through advocacy, education, and a deep belief in community care, Wallace and her team are fighting for a Nashville where everyone has a place to call home.
