As our last intern pick article, (sad I know), we wanted to pick something silly to end our time. With the chilly winter approaching, and Nashvillians needing to whip out their not-so-warm coats, we decided to pick a song that feels like your coat isn’t warm enough but you are pretending it is. So when you are braving the cold in your jacket and scarf, take a listen to these songs below.
Michelle’s Pick: Turnover “I Would Hate You If I Could”
The vibe of this song is mellow, with a touch of melancholy. I’ve always loved winter, but if I’m caught outside unprepared, the cold quickly gets to me. I’m pretty sure the first time I heard this track was during winter, and that association has stuck. The lyric “Forget the days we’d waste in bed” especially resonates. It feels tied to the season, when the chill outside makes staying wrapped up in a warm bed irresistible. Honestly, I’d never want to leave, especially when my cats are curled up beside me. If you’re looking for the perfect soundtrack to a cold-weather day, this is it. Listen down below!
Grace’s Pick: The Neighbourhood “Reflections”
When I am bundled up and need some music to distract my mind, I tend to put on any song by The Neighbourhood. For this, I chose their song “Reflections” from their 2018 album, Hard To Imagine The Neighbourhood Ever Changing, which is ironic because the band did change… and went on a hiatus. Not to fret, they are back and better than ever. They recently released a brand new album, (((((ultraSOUND))))), which is genuinely one of the best complete albums I have heard in a while. When I am bundled and wrapped in my big puffer jacket and walking through the brisk wind, I will be playing The Neighbourhood for sure and you should too. Imagine… strolling down a chilly street, snowflakes slowly falling in your face, and headphones in, listening to “Reflections.” Feel like winter magic and take a listen below!
Zerita’s Pick: Bob Dylan “Girl From North County”
What says a cold winter day more than Bob Dylan on the cover of his Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan bundled up in a tiny coat? Not only does the visual aspect of this album and song fit the prompt, but the lyrics are a true testament to a cold winter’s day. “If you go when the snowflakes storm// When the rivers freeze and summer ends// Please, see if she has a coat so warm// To keep her from the howlin’ winds.” Like most of us, I had a huge Bob Dylan phase last winter after watching A Complete Unknown twice in movie theaters, and with every blow of the Nashville winds, I can hear distant harmonica in the wind. He is calling me back into the clutches of his buzzing acoustic strings and ringing song. So if you’re traveling to the North Country this winter, like I am, remember me to Lightning 100- cause it once was an internship of mine.
Signing off… your Fall 2025 interns. Farewell.
