This week our theme was best songs to hear in an uber on the way home.

Grace’s Pick: Her’s “What Once Was”

This week, my pick is more niche than what is usually played in an Uber. But to me, this is the perfect late night drive home, hand out the window, city lights in the rearview. “What Once Was” by Her’s is an indie-alternative tune that you can get lost in. Her’s is a Liverpool based duo known for their dream pop sound. This song came out in 2017 on their album, Songs of Her’s. Devastatingly, the duo is no longer with us because of a terrible car incident. All the more reason to stream their music and keep it alive! So queue this song up next time you’re on your way home from a late night.

Zerita’s Pick: Elton John “Tiny Dancer”

When I think of taking an Uber home- this is usually from some sort of show. After a concert I always find myself introspective and inspired. For this sort of mood, I can’t think of a more fitting song than Elton John’s timeless ballad “Tiny Dancer.” For fans of Cameron Crowe’s film, Almost Famous, the iconic scene of the band singing along to “Tiny Dancer” is a staple. There’s something about losing yourself in the story of the tiny dancer that makes you feel for something bigger than yourself. And when winding down from a night out, there’s nothing I’d rather do than “count the headlights on the highway.” Listen to “Tiny Dancer” Below!

Michelle’s Pick: Oasis “Don’t Look Back in Anger”

I always associate taking an Uber with the quiet moments after leaving a concert, a party, or a night out. There’s something about that transition, stepping away from the noise and energy, sinking into the stillness, that feels reflective. I like to sit in that vibe, letting the silence settle in as I leave it all behind. “Don’t Look Back in Anger” is perfect for this. This song is almost exactly the written out version of this feeling. “She knows it’s too late as we’re walking on by / Her soul slides away / ‘But don’t look back in anger,’ I heard you say” hits especially hard. It’s a reminder that the night is over, and rather than dwell on what happened, or what didn’t, it’s better to move forward with grace. If you haven’t heard this song, it’s a must. It’ll get you right in the feels. Give it a listen below.

Leo’s Pick: “Joining A Fan Club,” by Jellyfish

In my experience, being in an Uber usually means that I am surrounded by my friends as we head to some sort of social outing. Usually, I want music that will pump me up, and get me excited for the festivities that I am going to embark upon. “Joining A Fan Club,” encapsulates the exact vibe that I strive for when I go out. The roaring guitars, screaming rock vocals, and easy-going lyrics make this track so fun and unforgettable. While Jellyfish only have a few albums available on streaming platforms, their influence on modern pop music is undeniable. To check out this track click the link below.
