Hey there, Nashville! This Friday is April Fools Day… so Lightning is coming at you with a whole day of cover songs from your favorite artists. With that being said, our intern pick of the week had to be a cover song worthy of airtime.
This week we chose Kid Freud’s cover of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” originally by Frankie Valli. Kid Freud is a Nashville based band consisting of two Vanderbilt students, Alex Tomkins and Daniel Closser, and a Belmont student, Kurt Krafft. In 2015 the garage pop, dance rock trio released their first EP “The End”, and since then have been playing all over Nashville. The Nashville Scene’s music blog, Cream, featured the EP as one of their local favorites of 2015, that’s rather high praise! Recently, they were admitted into Lightning 100’s Road To Roo competition, and have made it to the semi finals with O.JR., Jess Nolan, and Roots Of Rebellion- we’ll see if they get to the final round on Thursday, March 31st.
The band is currently tracking their next EP “American Boy”, but has yet to announce a release date. Keep these guys on your radar; we expect big things from them!
