This week, Keith has chosen “Synchronize” by Milky Chance as his DJ Pick! Milky Chance is an eclectic German pop duo that has attracted over 5 billion streams and multiple Platinum certifications. Last year, their single “Colorado” made it into the Top 5 Alternative Radio hits. Additionally, they performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Kelly Clarkson Show.
“Synchronize” features a strummy, sunny chorus that draws inspiration from The Mamas & Papas. It also transports the listener to “a packed dancefloor, pulsating synths and an insistent backbeat snapping you out of a Californian daydream”. Directed by Marie Schuller, the “Synchronize” video initiates the Milky Chance boys into a revelrous doomsday cult while bizarre astrological phenomena illuminate the sky.
Milky Chance is already taking strides in the industry with their Milky Change initiative. This cause promotes eco-consciousness and sustainability in the music industry by planting trees to offset the carbon footprint of touring. In addition, the band is fully independent as of 2021, launching their own label: Muggelig Records. “Running our own label gives us the ability to be just as creative with how we get the music out to people as we are with how we make it,” says Dausch. “There’s more responsibility,” adds Rehbein, “but there’s a lot more freedom, too.”
