The Aquaducks, native to Nashville and this week’s local artist of the week, are a funky, soulful band and a favorite here at Lightning 100. The group’s many influences include James Brown, Lettuce, Earth Wind & Fire and Stevie Wonder, which influenced their latest single “Bill’s Toupee.” Drummer and percussionist Andrew Fleming says, “The idea behind Bill’s Toupee is to do what funk music does best, which is to combine funky instrumentation with lyrics that don’t run the risk of being taken too seriously.” The Aquaducks affectionately refer to their fans as “aquaducklings” and put the fan experience first and foremost when performing and creating new music.
The Aquaducks consist of Cavanaugh Mims (vocals, keyboard), Andrew Fleming (drums), Zach Sheffler (guitar), Carter Murphey (bass), Thomas Baxter (guitar), Paul Violante (saxophone) and Kevin Griffin (trumpet). Be looking for The Aquaducks’ live full length album to drop in the fall of 2016 but in the meantime, watch “Bill’s Toupee” below and catch them this Friday at Soulshine Pizza Factory!
